Guest artist for February & March 2019
Colin paints landscapes of unusual and less discovered places – especially those with a story, or the suggestion of a story, attached to them. He also likes to bring out the strangeness of places that may be familiar to us, but might look subtly different in a parallel imaginative world.
Many of these pictures have been the fruit of simply walking and exploring. Once he has discovered somewhere that intrigues him he will do sketches, take photos and produce a drawing at home that aims to bring out the intrinsic atmosphere and experience of a place. Sometimes this will be quite changed and distorted; at other times he will leave it much as it looked. This design is then transferred to a canvas and he begins to paint.
Colin hopes the viewer will enjoy these glimpses of places and landscapes – and that they might perhaps inspire explorations of your own.
