Suzie studied Illustration at the University of Westminster specialising in Natural History. She takes inspiration from nature, drawing the birds, plants & animals that she see’s around her every day and sometimes those from a little further afield.
She is especially interested in birds, how our relationships have changed with them, what we have lost and gained. Suzie likes to discover the folklore around the birds she is looking at, how our names and connections with them vary from place to place and over time.
Sketching from life is the starting point of everything Suzie does. It feeds both her drawing & printmaking. She draws mainly in charcoal and pastels, these media allow her to create a sense of movement and offer an intensity in the mark making. Suzie also make prints with lino, allowing her to create a very different sort of image with strong shapes and colours. She enjoys working on handmade paper that has a distinct quality of its own.
