167 High Street, Tonbridge, Kent TN9 1BX

Refreshments served. Free entry.

Come and see our all new ‘Springtime’ exhibition and meet our new artists!
We are delighted to introduce printmaker Ruth McDonald and welcome back our silversmith, Victoria Wainwright.

Ruth McDonald

Ruth’s work reflects her interest in her local woodland landscape and the sea when illuminated by failing light and the moon to expose the traces left by past inhabitants.
She works from her studio in Kent and The Print Block, Whitstable. Ruth has exhibited extensively, both in the UK and abroad, most recently at Bankside Gallery & The Mall Galleries, London, The Beaney Canterbury.

New work, “Shoreline 2” by Ruth McDonald

Victoria Wainwright

Victoria is returning with new designs including a breakfast inspired choker, made of silver, gold and copper.

On the 5th & 6th May the English Civil War Society is
re-enacting the Battle of Tonbridge in the Tonbridge Castle grounds. Meanwhile, in West Malling Victoria is making a new and hopefully less bloody castle.

12 & 13 May: Watch us at work

Keep the weekend of 12th & 13th May free. We have planned a whole weekend of artists demonstrating in the gallery what they do and how they create their art.

Our glass artist Hilary Shields will be demonstrating along with silversmith Charlotte Tabor, printmakers Sarah de Mattos and Elaine Thompson, watercolourist Carole Robson and paper artist Julie Taylor and more…

Dried plants are pressed into soft clay & a plaster mould is made.

Once the glass has been fired to take on the dried flower imprint, it gets fired again to slump it over of rounded moulds to give it three-dimensionality.

Meanwhile resident ceramic artists, Mike Evans and Tim Harker will be demonstrating their skills on the potters wheel out on the pavement, weather permitting. Look out for them as you’re passing along the High Street.

Artists demonstrating from 11am – 4pm on both days.
We hope to see you there!

More art events in and around Tonbridge

Another highlight in the June calendar will be Tonbridge Art Fair along the River Walk, overlooked by Tonbridge Castle. The fair is free to visitors and promises to be an enjoyable day out by the River Medway.

Artists’ Open Studios

Artists’ Open Studios in June will be taking place in Tonbridge, Hildenborough, Hadlow and Yalding. This event fills the gap in the art calendar left by South East Open Studios taking a year out and not running in 2018.
Art trail leaflets will soon be available at libraries, shops, galleries, tourist information sites and more.

Every weekend in June

The event runs every weekend in June 11am-6pm.
Not all artists exhibit every weekend, so check the trail or visit for more info and a downloadable copy of the art trail and map.

Looking ahead…
