Christina France FRSA is an award winning artist working with print, drawing, shadow and time. Her work is exhibited regularly nationally and internationally and is held in private and public collections including the V&A Museum.
Transparent layers of subdued colour give depth to the work which offer the viewer a moment of calm and reflection in our fast moving, digital world. Her delicate drawings are embossed, create shadow and line whilst her painterly approach to printmaking uses unconventional methods in order to achieve the layering and translucency she strives for. Gold and silver leaf or dust is sometimes gilded onto the surface of the work.
In her words
‘My own approach is one of lyrical abstraction, hopefully poetic and possibly akin to a musical interpretation of something that can’t be captured physically.’
Working from her studio in Sevenoaks she travels regularly to the prestigious Ålgården workshop in Sweden where she was invited as Artist in Residence in 2015. She continues to work there two or three times a year enjoying the freedom and space the workshop and surrounding area offer.
Christina is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, an elected member of Greenwich Printmakers Association, a member of the Printmaker’s Council and the founder and curator of PrintFest7.
