Hilary Shields

As a child, I was always making things, but following a science degree and a career in the pharmaceutical industry it was through adult education that I discovered ceramics and then later glass.

I am fascinated with the properties of glass and the numerous techniques and processes to be explored and experimented with.
I make kiln-formed or leaded items and like to combine pattern, texture and vibrant colours.
Although based in Kent, I spend a number of weeks each year in Fife, Scotland and take inspiration from the coastline, plant-life and landscape there.
