Karen Summers

Karen expresses through the versatility of drawing a wide range of imagery, offering the freedom to explore with a variety of media, visual form that is not restricted to obvious representation.

She harnesses the motion of dance and movement by exploring the connection between ones innermost feelings and the subsequent projected image. Disclosing ones existence and unique identity of self with every gesture one makes, a tilt of the head, fold of the arm, even the most fleeting of glances are distilled; creating a vital and conscious force that challenges us to connect with one another.

She has recently been drawing from live performance, taking in traditional dance from Northern India (Kathak), exuberant, lively and joyous Bollywood, earthy and passionate flamenco from Barcelona and Granada and the amazing precision and sexual tension that is the Argentine Tango. Those rich and intense experiences influence her work which portrays the excitement and vibrancy that these artists bring to the stage.

Karen works a broad range of media pastels, charcoal, inks, oils, acrylics and often on hand prepared papers. Some of the pieces are worked with simple line drawing whilst others are layered with colour and texture.

She has exhibited with the Pastel Society at the Mall Galleries, SW1 Gallery in Victoria, Pure Arts Group in Battle and various galleries in Kent and the South East. She currently exhibits with the Lloyd’s Art Group in London, the Kent Painters Group, and has also had work in exhibitions at the city offices of SE1 Legal and Mitsui Sumitomo.
